A 38-year-old woman, Ajoke Akinleye, who allegedly defrauded one Adetula Ayodele of N650,000 was on Tuesday charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Akinleye, who lives at No. 14 Shobayo St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence.
Police prosecutor Chudu Gbesi told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on June 21, at Ifeoldun St., Owode, Ota, Ogun.
Gbesi said the accused collected N650, 000 from the complainant to purchase a Mitsubishi car, an agreement she failed to fulfill.
”All efforts made by the complainant to get the accused to fulfill the agreement or return the money proved abortive,” he told the court.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Banwo said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should swear to an affidavit of means.
He ordered that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and present evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
