NDLEA probing officials for aiding drug barons
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said some of its officers are currently under investigation for alleged fraternity with suspected drug syndicates.
The Chairman/Chief Executive, NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.) gave the hint while addressing officers at the national headquarters of the agency in Ikoyi, Lagos at the weekend.
A statement by the Head, Public Affairs, NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, quoted Abdullah as stating that the agency had beamed its searchlight inwards, stressing that any officer who engaged in acts of compromise and fraternity with drug barons would be made to face the full weight of the law.
When contacted on the telephone on Saturday, Ofoyeju said the NDLEA boss declined to identify the suspected officials and their number.
The statement quoted Abdullah as saying, “The agency is currently investigating some of its personnel deployed to man some sensitive beats and points for fraternising with barons and related organised criminal syndicates to frustrate the efforts of the agency in the smooth execution of its statutory mandate. Accordingly, any officer found culpable will be decisively dealt with and made to face the full weight of the law.”
The NDLEA boss added that he was working hard in building an agency that had zero tolerance for corruption through strict law enforcement.
