Michelle Obama and Melania Trump Have Tea at the White House — Cue the Internet

Melania Trump and Michelle Obama
Never has “sips tea” been more appropriate. Michelle Obama carried on the first lady’s tradition of inviting the POTUS-elect’s wife to tea at the White House, sitting down with Donald Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, on Thursday, November 10. Considering Melania was accused of plagiarizing FLOTUS’ 2008 speech earlier this year at the Republican National Convention, the internet wasted no time LOLing over the historic — and memebale — moment.
“Michelle Obama welcomes Melania Trump to White House: ‘Nice to meet you.’ Nice to meet you. ‘Come in.’ Come in. ‘Tea?’ Tea?,” one person on Twitter jokingly described of their meeting, mocking Melania’s plagiarism scandal.

Others took notice of how awkward their meeting must have been, considering their husbands were in another room meeting for the first time since the historically nasty election race and Trump incorrectly questioning Obama’s birthplace and legitimacy as president.

According to the Washington Post, the former model and FLOTUS talked about raising kids and took a tour of the White House’s private residence, Truman Balcony and the State Floor of the mansion with the White House curator.

Michelle, who campaigned for Trump’s Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, has only briefly discussed the plagiarism scandal, when Melania gave a speech at the Republican National Convention that copied part of a past speech of Michelle’s. During an appearance with Stephen Colbert, Michelle said “That was tough” when asked about the incident.

The president-elect later tweeted about the couple's visit to the White House, writing, "A fantastic day in D.C. Met with President Obama for first time. Really good meeting, great chemistry. Melania liked Mrs. O a lot!"
