Traore: Why do kids get no chance at Chelsea?

Bertrand Traore
Chelsea striker Bertrand Traore has criticised the club’s youth policy and is puzzled as to why he was sent out on loan to Ajax this season.

The 21-year-old caught the eye when given his chance in the Chelsea first team by then interim manager Guus Hiddink and looked set to play a part in this campaign, too, after featuring heavily in Antonio Conte’s pre-season plans.

However, Traore was ditched in favour of Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi and is now temporarily plying his trade in the Eredivisie, where he has scored twice in ten games.

“I felt, and feel, that I am ready for Chelsea. I did not see the loan overall. Why did I play so much in pre-season?” Traore said.

“Why was I allowed to participate so often under Guus Hiddink [last season]? Why do young players get no real chance at Chelsea?

“It’s good for the composition of the squad if it is also home to a couple of talented youngsters.”
