Three years, after he was forced into exile, the Olofin of Ado-Odo, Oba Lateef Akanni Adeniran has lamented his predicament. Ado-Odo, an Awori town in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, on April, 15, 2013, engulfed in violence leading to the razing of the Olofin’s palace.
During the melee, Oba Adeniran escaped death by the whiskers, but sustained injuries on his arms and legs. While he was stripped naked, his wife, Olori Fausat, was almost raped by the angry mob. The mob also burnt several vehicles parked in the palace as well as traditonal artifacts including bearded crown.
Oba Adeniran, who spoke with Daily Sun through one of his chiefs, who craved for annonymity in Abeokuta recently said he had suffered untold hardship in the past three years. The chief quoted the monarch as appealing to the state government to ensure release of the report of the Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice Oluwatosin Elizabeth Osinuga:
“Justice delayed is justice denied, the Kabiyesi has lived for too long in exile. We plead with the state government to ensure that our monarch returns to Ado-Odo without further delay.”
However, he said that necessary actions should be set in motion to return him to his people. Olofin, he stated, appealed to indigenes of the town to eschew bitterness and ensure peaceful co-existence among one another.
Also, the Ado-Odo Concerned Peoples Forum canvassed support for the return of Olofin to town in no distance future. Chairman of the forum, Dr. Dare Ogunleye, said the town could not achieve the much-needed development amid rancour and bitterness:
“We must unite for a common purpose and progress of our town, so that posterity would judge our contributions to the town.”
