Mariah Carey's Team Thinks Her NYE Performance Was Sabotaged! But See How Dick Clark Productions Is Calling Her Out!
Mariah Carey made major headlines on New Year's Eve when she delivered the most epic performance fail. And while all were quick to blame Mimi for her mess up, her team is pointing fingers elsewhere.
Her people think TV executives with Dick Clark Productions straight up sabotaged her! Apparently before her performance, Mariah had complained to production a number of times about her earpieces not working.
After one TV interview with Ryan Seacrest earlier in the night, Mariah and her team reportedly complained about the inner ears, but were told that during her performance she'd be on a different frequency and it wouldn't be a problem. Hmmmm….
Apparently she continued to have problems hearing before hitting the stage, and she even had her mic pack fail! The battery died and they changed packs, but Mariah continued to struggle with sound (and lyrics and dance moves, LOLz). Along with that, when she did finally begin her performance, the prompter wasn't working so she couldn't get the lyrics or stage cues.
The Elusive Chanteuse ended up ripping out her earpiece in an attempt to just hear the music and go along, but of course the NYE crowd was a bit too loud. And now her team has reportedly been in touch with Dick Clark Productions and called them out for sabotaging her performance just to get some Mariah drama!
Her rep Nicole Perna has commented on the matter:
"She was not winging this moment and took it very seriously. A shame that production set her up to fail … they were again told that her earpiece was not working. Instead of endeavoring to fix the issue so that Mariah could perform, they went live."
But Dick Clark Productions has something to say about that! Their statement reads:
"As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists. To suggest that dcp (Dick Clark Productions), as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year's Rockin' Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd. We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry."
Rumor is it might have been Mariah HERSELF who sabotaged the performance as she skipped soundcheck and had a stand-in do her part. There were also eight monitors amplifying sound for her, so production thinks she should've been able to hear the music just fine even after taking out her earpiece.
Dick Clark Productions has apparently also pointed out that she changed her story as the original claim was that they played the wrong track — something they're also shooting down as her team provided a tracklist. 2
We may never know who is really at fault, but we will always be able to watch video of the mess up.
