A middle aged man, Chidobe Nkem, was on Monday shot dead by a four-man armed robbery gang who intersected his vehicle at the Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Warri Urban after being trailed from the bank and stolen N5 million from him.
The deceased, a driver who was accompanied by Mr. Maxwell Adibe, a manager (both staff of a Marine Company, Smu-Tuns Nigeria Ltd) were drove in a C-Class Mercedes-Benz to the bank, along Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
The manager got into the banking hall at about 8.34am and withdrew N5 million on behalf of the company. He joined the driver who waited for him inside the car.
As they were returning to the office with the cash, they were trailed by a metallic coloured Toyota Corolla car.
Daily Sun learnt that it was right from the popular Link Road, off Ajamimogha Road while trying to negotiate into the GRA that the robbers fired the first shot from behind through to the rear glass of the car which hit the driver at the back.
The driver who had thought he could manage to escape with the bullet injury, however, did not go far before the robbers intercepted his car at Mabiaku Junction and crashed the car on the fence of a building.
Sensing that the driver could no longer continue, the manager quickly ran out of the car and took refuge in a near-by building, leaving the driver alone at the mercy of the robbers.
The bandits shot into the air before escaping with the money.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) ‘A Division’,  CSP Kevin Izuokumor, confirmed the incident and said the police are on the trail of the robbers.
