The Vice-Chancellor, Summit University, Offa (SUNO), Hussein Oloyede, said on Sunday that the university would begin academic activities in December with 500 students.
Mr. Oloyede, who made this known at a news conference in Offa, said that the institution would take off with students in the colleges of Natural and Applied Sciences, Humanities and Management, and Social Science.
Summit University, owned by the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, was among the newly approved private universities by the Federal Government.
The vice-chancellor explained that the university would offer courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, English and Literary Studies.
According to him, other courses are Economics, Business Administration, Political Science and Accounting.
Mr. Oloyede assured parents and students that tuition fees of the institution would be the least among the private universities in the country.
He said that the university would be unique in the discharge of its mandate in teaching, research and service to the community.
“As an avowal, we are set to produce graduates, who are not only knowledgeable, highly skilled, of excellent moral characters, but graduates who are exemplary distinctive in all ramifications.
“With our unique mode of teaching, we are set to make a difference by emphasising entrepreneurial skill inherent in all the disciplines, so as to make our graduates employers of labours, and not job seekers.
“We are set out to come up with new programmes from time to time, to ensure periodic review and updating of our curriculum to make it responsive to new challenges,” Mr. Oloyede said.
The vice-chancellor said the university would also embark on result-oriented research for immediate and long term benefits of humanity.
“Ours at Summit University shall be collaborative research involving other universities, local, international research institutes and industries to solve human problems.
“As a foremost faith-based institution, this university is set out to inculcate moral values into all spheres of our lives, including the discharge of our mandates in teaching, research and service to the community.
“We shall engage first class teaching and non-teaching staff and make the university fully IT compliant, while making our environment fully e-equipped in respect of lecture rooms, auditorium, teaching, communication and library”.
Mr. Oloyede promised that the university would promote sporting activities to produce graduates, who are not only intellectually sound, but also healthy.
He, therefore, called on the Federal Government to include private universities among the beneficiaries of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
