Military kills 8 suicide bombers at Gubio checkpoint —LG chair
Chairman of Gubio Local Government Area, Hon. Zanna Modu Gubio, and the Acting Commander of 5 Brigade of Operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Dangana, have confirmed that eight suicide bombers who attempted to invade Gubio, headquarters of Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, were shot dead by troops Tuesday.

The incident took place at about 9.30am when the suicide bombers with Improvised Explosive Devices strapped on their bodies in a Hilux vehicle attempted to invade the town which is about 150 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

The chairman said: “This is contrary to some media report (not National Mirror), purportedly credited to police which claimed that nine of the suicide bombers and some civilians were killed during the attack. Already, the gallant troops have imposed curfew in and around Gubio from 6pm to 7am, pending when the situation improves.”

Speaking to our correspondent from Gubio, Hon. Gubio added: “One Isuzu Hilux vehicle with registration number AX 392 KGG, carrying eight suicide bombers had attempted to wreck havoc on Gubio today afternoon, but with prompt action from troops and men of the civilian JTF, the attack was repelled as all the occupants/suicide bombers in that Hilux van were neutralised before reaching their target.

“I am happy to inform you that there was no casualty from the side of the military or civilians; the eight suicide bombers were killed by our gallant troops with support from the acting brigade commander of the 5 Brigade Headquarters in Gubio who is also the chief of staff in the brigade
