A family in southern Illinois was already reeling from the death of their 8-year-old daughter this week… but the latest news out of the case is absolutely devastating.
Sabrina Stauffenberg was waiting for a bus on her porch in Olney, Ill. last Wednesday when she suddenly disappeared from her aunt and uncle's sights.
Apparently, Sabrina had just finished a phone call with her grandmother discussing her missing transportation to church when she was allegedly abducted — and when her elderly family member tried to call her back, there was simply no answer.
Unfortunately, after tracking the child's cellphone, a police search team located her suffocated body outside of a vinegar plant hours later on Thursday morning.
While 53-year-old Glen Ramey (above) was almost immediately linked to the crime and arrested on Sunday, local reports now indicate the kidnapping wasn't random… he was reportedly dating a member of Sabrina's family.
To make an already disgusting story even worse, Richland County police officers' rape suspicions were confirmed by neighbor Denise Haley, who told PEOPLE on Tuesday:
"He was just walking home and he saw Sabrina standing outside and lured her away form the porch. She knew him so she would've went. [Her body] was bound and they found her pants down around her ankles… They did find DNA on her."
We cannot even begin to imagine what her family is going through.
Glen has since been charged with first-degree murder as well as predatory sexual assault and is due in court today — but we're hoping his FOUR separate restraining orders since 2014 paired with his $10 million bail see him held responsible to the fullest extent of the law.
