The Nigeria women’s football team, Super Falcons, are back from Cameroon where they emerged victorious in the 2016 Africa Women’s Nations Cup, AWCON.
The Super Falcons beat hosts Cameroon by a lone goal in the final to claim their 8th AWCON crown.
They arrived in Lagos on Sunday ahead of a planned meeting with President Muhammad Buhari who has already congratulated the team for their latest feat.
The Captain of the Falcons, Rita Chikwelu, said she is positive that she and her teammates will be handsomely rewarded this time after failing to get the needed attention after their triumph in Namibia two years ago.
The Falcons skipper said she was elated that they were able to conquer the continent yet again despite the tough oppositions on parade especially in the final against the Indomitable Lionesses.
“I think this is my best AWCON title so far, it evens feels like I have won the World Cup,” the Falcons skipper said on arrival from Cameroon.
Desire Oparanozie, who was the hero for Nigeria on Saturday, scoring the solitary goal of the game, said she is excited with her contribution.
“Of course I am happy to score in the final, we worked hard together as a team and our effort was crowned with success” the France-based striker now referred to as ‘Opagoal’ stated.
